The communities in the BHJ area have so much history and so many stories to be told it seemed only fitting to develop the “Community Profile” section to highlight our past – Mt. Pleasant and the Underground Railroad – the Mingo Indians roaming through the hills and valleys -the City of Wellsburg’s early industry of boat building. George Washington passed through and Morgan’s Raiders fought here. The Ohio Valley has been home to some notable people such as Oscar Ray and Austin Roy Grimes, twin brothers from Adena, who played professional baseball, Robert Urich and Dean Martin and many more. What you find here is just a brief sampling of our heritage, but perhaps it will whet your appetite to discover more.
