In 2024, WV Department of Transportation closed the Market Street Bridge to pedestrians, bicycles, and traffic due to unsafe conditions. In that same year, WV DOT was awarded a $87.5 million grant through the US Department of Transportation Large Bridge Investment Program to rebuild the Market Street Bridge.

What’s Next

While this is only the beginning of the process, the BHJ-MPC is the Metropolitan Planning Organization responsible for guiding the replacement of the Market Street Bridge through the project planning and development stages. The BHJ-MPC will engage the public throughout this process, determining preferences and support for various design options. This includes planning for the bridge’s replacement and ensuring it serves all users, including drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

This page will serve as an information hub about progress on the bridge replacement process and offer ways to participate in events related to rebuilding the Market Street Bridge.
