BHJ Attends Grants Awards Ceremony

BHJ Executive Director talks business with US Rep. David McKinley and WV Del. Mark Zatezalo during the announcement of a $4M in regional grant funding on March 26 in Weirton.

US Sen. Shelley Moore Capito was on site to announce the awards. The first grant, $1.2 million, will be used to build a road and other infrastructure for the retail portion of a new mixed-use development off Three Springs Drive in Weirton.

The development will include the region’s only convention center, located behind the Fairfield Inn. The site will also have frontage on Park Dr., and bring in new retail, restaurants and office businesses.

The federal infrastructure funds will be matched by the city, which also plans to build a convention center on the site, part of a larger, nearly 72-acre parcel the Business Development Corporation acquired earlier this year.

The second award, made to the BDC, totals $2.6 million to be used to repair and replace the floor, roof and electrical system serving a currently unused portion of the Beech Bottom Industrial Park.
