The
Brooke-Hancock Regional Planning and Development Council (BH) is one of
eleven regional planning and development councils located in West Virginia. BH is
authorized as an agency of local governments and possesses all powers
and duties as issued by the Joint Resolution and Articles of Agreement
in West Virginia Code – Chapter 8, Article 25.
According to
West Virginia statute:
“The Council will serve as the focal point for
district planning. It will formulate district economic and community
development plans and programs. It will consider and when feasible
incorporate development policies and priorities. The Council will serve
as the primary designate for relating needs, objectives and priorities
to statewide development and program planning. Member counties include
Brooke and Hancock as active participants in this process. Member
incorporated communities including Beech Bottom, Bethany, Chester,
Follansbee, New Cumberland,
Weirton
and Wellsburg will also be active participants in this process.”

COMPREHENSIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY (CEDS) TO INCLUDE A OHIO
UNIVERSITY VOINOVICH SCHOOL ECONOMIC ADJUSTMENT GRANT FOR JOB DEVELOPMENT
On November 4th, the Brooke-Hancock Regional Planning and Development
Council met to consider a proposal by Ohio University’s Voinovich School
of Leadership and Public Affairs to identify resources that aid
communities in developing targeted economic growth strategies. Targeted as
a collaborative effort to help 26 counties in southeastern Ohio and
Brooke/Hancock counties in West Virginia, this grant in the amount of
$401,000 would strategize ways to improve the economy.
